Virginia Youth Ballet

The Virginia Youth Ballet and Theater is the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit company associated with the academy that provides professional-level experiences to dance students and outreach programs in the art of dance for the community.

Since its inception in 1989 the VYB has performed story ballets that are exciting and intriguing for audiences young and mature. In addition to public performances, VYB has performed for thousands of area school children. For many of these children it is their first live-theater performance, bringing an awareness and appreciation for performing arts that can only be experienced in-person. Past performances have included Peter and the Wolf, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Romeo and Juliet, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Puss in Boots, Hansel and Gretel, Alice in Wonderland, Coppelia, The Secret Garden, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Pied Piper, and more.

Help us ignite the passion of dance in young people everywhere.

Audience Reviews

“I thoroughly enjoyed Vostrikov's production of "The Steadfast Toy Soldier," which I attended with my homeschooled children. As a former ballerina and touring Broadway performer, I love to see the arts being brought to life with passion and skill by the next generation in my home town of Winchester, Virginia. It was clear that the teachers at Vostrikov’s work closely with students to impart musicality, technique, and expression unique to classical ballet. I was also happy to see their inclusion of younger students and students at all skill levels included, allowing them to practice their stage presence. The creativity of introducing various dolls and toys, sewer creatures, and dreamlike characters, each with their own unique choreography, was highly enjoyable. I'm excited for future productions!” ~Stacey S.

“We took our 3rd and 4th graders to the performance of “The Steadfast Toy Soldier,” and there was not a single "bored" child in the lot! Even the most fidgety 8- and 9-year-olds became wholly engrossed in the story with its eye-catching sets, humorous scenes, and simply beautiful ballet. The creative way the scenes were portrayed, particularly the underwater/sewer scene, really grabbed the audience and elicited admiration from students and teachers alike. What a wonderful opportunity it was for our students to see live and up close a real ballet with actors spanning a wide range of ages. We are truly grateful for the experience!” ~Holly M., Educator
